Passionfruit Black

The most familiar passionfruit for most Australian gardeners - deep purple-black skin, intensely flavoured yellow-orange pulp, and that unmistakeable sweet-tart tang. Black passionfruit is the hardiest of the varieties and well-suited to Perth gardens, producing prolifically through summer and autumn. Vigorous climber - needs a solid trellis or fence. Full sun, well-drained fertile soil. Water generously through summer; inconsistent watering causes fruit drop. Feed regularly with a potassium-rich fertiliser. Prune back by a third each spring to encourage new fruiting growth. Vines typically fruit well for 5-7 years.
