The Story
Western Australia's floral emblem and one of the most distinctive flowers in the world - Kangaroo Paw is entirely endemic to WA and grows nowhere else on earth naturally. It performs with ease in Perth's sandy soils and hot dry summers when given the full sun it needs. The tubular, velvety flowers are irresistible to honeyeaters who hover and probe them for nectar. Full sun essential. Well-drained sandy soil. Low-phosphorus native fertiliser only. Cut spent flower stems to the base after flowering. Divide clumps every 3-4 years to maintain vigour.
